Michael Wagner

Bass / Bassbaritone

Born in Wolfsbach in the Lower Austrian Mostviertel. 2004 to 2007 member of the ensemble Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck. Afterwards internationally active freelance. Since 2013 guest and since 2015/16 member of the ensemble at the Neue Musiktheater Linz. To his roles belonged so far Marcus Schouler in Bolcom's "Mc Teague" (with this role he was also nominated for the "Austrian Music Theater Award" as the best male lead singer), Leporello in Mozart's "Don Giovanni", Ghost Messenger and Dyer Barak in Richard Strauss's masterpiece "Die Frau ohne Schatten", as Peter in "Hänsel and Gretel", Mephistopheles in "La damnation de Faust" by Hector Berlioz and Prince Gremin in P.I. Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin". In the past season he was u.a. Baron Weps in Zellers "Der Vogelhändler" and Orest in Strauss' "Elektra". In 2019/20, he will be heard at the Neues Musiktheater in Linz as Ollendorf in Millöcker's "Bettelstudent", Osmin in Mozart's "Abduction from the Seraglio", Gurnemanz in Wagner's "Parsifal" and in the premiere of Michael Obst's "Unter dem Gletscher".

Michael Wagner collaborated with the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra, the Concilium Musicum, Lárpeggione, the LÓrfeo Baroque Orchestra, Harmonices Mundi, the Vienna Academy and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Most recently performances at the Linzer Festival "Klassik am Dom", the "Rheingau-Festival" and the "Brucknertage St.Florian". To be heard in Verdi's Requiem at the Linz Brucknerhaus in November (Ltg. Martin Zeller). In April 2020 he will be heard in a series of concerts with the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra (Ltg. Karl-Heinz Steffens) with Bruckner's Te Deum.
