Aura Twarowska


Romanian mezzo soprano Aura Twarowska has been a soloist with the State Opera in Vienna since 2007, when she debuted as Marcellina in The Wedding of Figaro, conducted by Seiji Ozawa, during the Asian tour of the opera, in Shanghai. A very skilled singer, she first debuted as Carmen at the National Opera House in Timisoara, Romania, in 1998.  Her work includes other operas and even more vocal-symphonic works.

Twarowska earned her PhD and got the maximum of votes at the National University of Music Bucharest on 29 April 2010.

She has an impressive repertoire of opera, oratory and lieder and has appeared on stage in numerous productions at the State Opera in Vienna (Puccini - Madama Butterfly, Wagner - Die Walkure, Goetterdaemmerung, Tschaikovski - Pique Dame, Evgheni Oneghin, Bellini - La Sonnambulla, Donizetti - La Fille du Regimen, Ch. Gounod –Faust, Strauss – Der Rosenkavalier, Musorgski – Boris Godunov), Wiener Volksoper (Wagner/Loriot-Wagners Ring am einem Abend), Wiener Musikverein (Beethoven-The 9th Symphony), G. Enescu Festival-Bucharest (Mozart-Kronungsmesse, Enescu-Oedipe), Carre Theater (Bizet-Carmen,  Strauss-Die Fledermaus) and Concertgebouw-Amsterdam (Handel-Messiah, Verdi-Requiem), Esplanade-Singapore (Mozart-Le Nozze di Figaro), and many more at the National Opera Houses in Timisoara, Bucharest and Cluj, Romania.

Aura Twarowska has collaborated with famous conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Christian Thielemann, Yves Abel, Marco Armiliato, etc. and many equally famous soloists: Anna Netrebko, Agnes Baltsa, Kiri Te Kanawa, Dolora Zajick, Samuel Ramey, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Roberto Alagna, Carlos Alvarez, Dimitri Hvorostovski and the list can go on and on.

A cheerful and passionate personality she has never ceased to improve her repertoire and has dedicated herself with great energy to many projects, both in her native Romania and abroad, including teaching and cultural projects. In recognition of her work, she has been awarded the Cultural Merit Medal by the President of Romania in 2004, while being honored in the same year with the Pro Culture Award by local authorities of the Timis County, for merits in promoting culture.

In 2018 Aura Twarowska has been awarded the Title of Corresponding Member of the “American Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences”.

She is Artistic Director of the Lugoj Classic International Festival, Sabin Dragoi International Singing Competition and Tiberiu Brediceanu International Singing Competition.
