Born in Bari, Michele Govi completed his musical education in 1991 at the Conservatory of his city with honours. He was winner of the competitions "Mercadante" and "Cilea" and in 1992 he received the Ricciarelli Prize for young singers.
As a versatile artist, Michele Govi feels comfortable in buffo roles as well as in dramatic roles.
Projects of season 2019/20 were his debut as Sulpice in La fille dui regiment by Donizetti and his interpretation of Giacomo in Verdi’s Giovanna D’Arco at the Theater Biel/Solthurn. He also performed at the Opera de Tours as Don Bartolo in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia.
He opened the season 2020/21 as Taddeo in a new production of Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri. With Teatro Galli di Rimini he will give is debut as Egberto in Verdi’s Aroldo.
Future projects include the baritone part in Faure’s Requiem in Luzern, Canio in Pagliacci and Gianni Schicchi at the Blackwater Opera Valley Festival in Irland and Jupiter in Offenbachs Orphée aux enfers in Switzerland.

Among the operas of the eighteenth century he interpreted Le Cantratrici villane, La Cambiale di matrimonio, La finta semplice.
Le serve rivali and Il cavaliere errante by Tommaso Traetta, La Serva padrona by Pergolesi and La Frascatana by Paisiello by Bongiovanni have already appeared on CD.
