Carlos Cardoso

Tenor

Born in Tarouquela (Portugal), he studied at "Beira Interior" with Maestro Ferreira. He won the 1st prize at Luísa Todi, the 3rd at Magda Olivero, the 1st at Rotary Club in Lisbon, the 2nd at Concorso internazionale Rubini in Romano di Lombardia where he gave his debut as Ernesto (Don Pasquale).  

In 2010/11 he was a member of the Opera Studio of Teatro Sao Carlos in Lisbon and in 2011/13 of the "Accademia del Teatro alla Scala" in Milan. With the Accademia he sang in concerts in Italy, in Un giorno di Regno at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, in Rossini's La Scala di Seta under Rousset and in Don Carlo as Conte di Lerma under Luisi and Morandi with Teatro alla Scala. Further debuts included Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Dutch National Opera Amsterdam, Conte di Libenskof in Viaggio a Reims at Rossini Opera Festival in Bad Wildbad under Fogliani, Fernando in La Favorita at Liceu de Barcelona (concert version), Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola at Teatro alla Scala under Pascal and Mianiti.

Engagements in 2015: Viaggio a Reims at Dutch National Opera Amsterdam under Montanari, La Cenerentola at Teatro alla Scala, debut as Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto for the Festival Verdiano 2015 at Teatro Verdi di Busseto, Duca in Rigoletto (cover of Duca di Mantova) with Teatro alla Scala, Adriana Lecouvreur at Teatre de la Monnaie Bruxelles under Pidò.

In 2016 he gave his debut as Don Narciso in Il Turco in Italia with Landestheater Salzburg and sang again Duca in Rigoletto in Busseto. With Teatro Sao Carlo in Lisbon he sang Ismaele in Nabucco.  

In 2016/17 he sang again as Duca in Rigoletto at the Aalto Theater Essen conducted by M. Beltrami, Conte di Leicester in Maria Stuarda at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Tebaldo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi at the Opera Vilnius conducted by S. Quatrini, in Orff's Carmina Burana and Jonathan Doves' Monster in the maze with the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.

Projects in the season 2017/18: Duca in Rigoletto, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Narraboth in Salome, Pong in Turandot, Alfredo in La Traviata, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly and New Years Concert at the Aalto Theater Essen, Capuleti e Montecchi in Vilnius.

Projects in the season 2018/19 included: Janacek’s Glagolitische Messe, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Narraboth in Salome, Cassio in Otello and Rodolfo in Luisa Miller at the Aalto Theater Essen. He also performed as Edoardo di Sanval in Un giorno di regno for the Parma Festival at the Teatro Verdi di Busseto and as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly in Japan. At the Teatro Sao Carlo in Lisbon he will sing as Rodolfo in La Bohème and in a concert.

Projects in the season 2019/20 are: Dvorak’s Requiem with the Tonkünsterlorchester in Grafenegg and at the Musikverein in Vienna, Don José in Carmen, Sou-Chong in Land des Lächelns, Faust, Rodolfo in La Bohème and Ismaele in Nabucco at the Aalto Theater in Essen. In Wuppertal he gives his debut in Puccini’s Messa di Gloria.

Carlos Cardoso worked with conductors such as Alberto Madureira da Silva, João Paulo Santos, António Lourenço, Eliseo Castrignanò, Lawrence Foster, Bruno Casoni, Marco Angius, Jader Bignamini, Francesco Angelico, Stefano Ranzani, George Pehlivanian and Sesto Quatrini.
